Meet The Founders

David and Maxine Kennedy built Rec-Mode Fitness from a shared passion for fitness, health, and service. Both lifelong athletes, they experienced the impact that movement, mentorship, and community support can have on building resilience and self-confidence.

 

David, an Army veteran and retired Fire Rescue Captain with nearly three decades of service, witnessed firsthand how poor health, limited access to fitness, and stress affect individuals and families. Maxine, with 17 years of experience in the medical and nutrition fields, brings a deep understanding of health, wellness, and long-term lifestyle change.

 

Together, they created Rec-Mode as a space where people of all ages and backgrounds can train safely, grow stronger, and discover their true potential — physically, mentally, and emotionally.

Meet Our Coaches

At Rec-Mode Fitness & Boxing, our coaches are more than trainers—they’re mentors, role models, and community builders. Each coach brings unique experience, passion, and professionalism, united by a shared vision to empower youth, athletes, and everyday people through strength, resilience, and purpose. With open minds and relentless dedication, they show up every day to inspire growth, build confidence, and push Rec-Mode to greater heights—one boxer, one class, one breakthrough at a time.

David Kennedy

Army veteran, retired Fire Captain, and founder of Rec-Mode, Coach Dave brings 29 years of service, grit, and compassion to empower athletes and build a stronger community through strength, mentorship, and resilience.

Melvin Ball

A USA Boxing member since 1989 and a Silver Gloves Champion, Coach Melvin combines championship experience and sharp technical knowledge to guide young athletes toward confidence and success inside and outside the ring.

Nuwan Jayakody

A former pro boxer, Coach Nuwan brings global experience and high-energy coaching to youth and adults, inspiring confidence, discipline, and passion in every athlete he trains.

Gbasi (Base) Trice

Coach Base, an NSCA-certified trainer with 15 years of experience and a background in boxing, Muay Thai, and MMA, delivers results-driven training that helps athletes of all levels unlock strength, shred fat, and perform at their peak—whether in the gym or at home.
